Unemployment isn't synonymous with failure, unless you live with your parents, so cheer up.  You now have an actual opportunity to change not only your career or job position, but your life.

"Yeah?,.. But how?"  Is the most common response to my opening statement.  How, boils down to two factors:

Your Attitude- This is how you choose mentally and emotionally respond to your current, past, and future life situations.

Your Goals- The presence of goals in your life says a lot on it's own, but how you plan, execute, and document your goals will say even more.

Of course to achieve ultimate success you'll need action.  Actions without goals are like a ship lost without a rudder.

Determine Your First Goal Today.

Every morning, I get out a 3x5 note card and write down 6 goals that I will accomplish that day.  I start on number one, and I don't stop until I'm finished with number 1.  After number 1 is successfully complete, then I move to number 2.

Sometimes I don't make it all the way down to 6, but I find that if I ignore 80% of what I think I'm suppose to do, and only focus on my current goal, I get WAY more done in the same amount of time had I not written my goals down to begin with.

A sample daily goal card for an unemployed person might be:

  1. Open an email account dedicated only to job searching that I will use for correspondence with prospective employers, signing up on job sites, and applying for positions.
  2. Start a spreadsheet listing online employment sites that allow free resume submission
  3. Start a spreadsheet listing prospective employers that best fit my career goals (companies that I want to work for)
  4. Research 3 companies and apply for a position at each one
  5. Follow Up on Yesterday's interview with John Doe
  6. Sign Up For an Employment Marketing class

It's hard to ignore distractions and scheduled events.  Over and above the noise, you will eventually find "time on your hands"  This small goal card will be the direction you need to take action on your goals.

If you have 6 goals and you only accomplish 3, then your day was 50% successful.  If you accomplish 6 goals every day, then you will not fail at any pursuit.

Working for a sales and marketing outsourcing firm offers you a unique perspective into the world of your clients businesses.  This perspective allows you to create solutions that will not only work for your current client, but will become a standardized best practice.

That being said, the economy is down and looking like it's going to stay down.  One of the first expenses that most businesses will cut seems to be marketing and one of the business models that seems to thrive in a down economy is staffing.

The challenge is to align our marketing skills with a model that is on the rise.  Having consultants on staff with expertise in both arenas allowed us to develop a new business model.

This new model serves both the employee and the employer through an innovative concept called "Employment Marketing"

We're developing our offering and will soon be developing other services centered on this sub category of marketing.

Online Marketing 05/29/2009

Out of all of the ways to get the word out about your product or service, online marketing is the most effective.  Not only is it one of the least expensive ways to advertise, but it's the only form of advertising that holds value as an investment.

If you're reading this content you know that simply buying a domain name can be profitable.  Think if you owned insurance.com or flowers.com how much you could sell them for based of of the search quantities alone.

That leads to the point of this blog.  The fundamental currency in online marketing is traffic.  Of course, not all traffic is good traffic so the denominations value is based on how "targeted" your online traffic is.

To focus on targeting you'll need to focus on relevancy and consider the general way information is found online.  This relevancy is categorized in "keywords" or key phrases.  The way individuals discover content is the medium (search engines, blogs, Sites, Direct Address via offline marketing, etc)

The most important medium in online marketing are the search engines.  I'll get into why in my next post and periodically build this overview.  If this is the first time visiting or reading our site, come back, because there will always be more content.
